Facilities Infrastructure Analysis Saves U.S. Army a Billion Dollars
The U.S. Army has used VISTA for facilities infrastructure analysis since 1988, saving nearly one billion dollars in construction costs.
The Army's real property holdings in 1988 totaled some 1.2 billion square feet. VISTA was hired to integrate the Army's disparate systems and databases, and ran quality analysis on this combined real property data to present conclusions and recommendations.
In its first year of work, VISTA saved the Army over $120 million dollars in unnecessary barracks projects. The service saved an additional estimated $200 million in the first round of Base Realignment and Closure.
"Facilities infrastructure analysis is absolutely critical to the government or any other enterprise," according to David Yentzer, former Director of Installation Planning Division, Headquarters, Department of the Army, Assistant Chief of Staff for Installation Management. "A correctly sized and properly maintained infrastructure makes operations more efficient, and reduces the bills associated with maintaining excess infrastructure."
